Massage for Effective Headache Relief, part 1 – Course Description
(sternocleidomastoid, suboccipitals, upper trapezius, occipitofrontalis)
This course is designed to provide successful treatment methods for all types of headaches. The focus will be on balancing muscles of the head and neck and releasing trigger points in 3 to 4 of the most common muscles to cause headaches. Additionally, participants will learn how to use hydrotherapy methods to relieve many types of headaches.
In this workshop, participants will learn specific palpation skills to positively identify the problem muscles & tissues that cause headaches. Assessment methods, including active, passive & resisted movements will also be demonstrated. Endangerment sites and contraindications will be thoroughly explained and identified. Graduates will be able to add effective Muscle Energy Techniques, pin & stretch and neuromuscular methods (including trigger point therapy) for the neck and head to their practices immediately.
Massage for Effective Headache Relief, part 1 - Objectives
Participants will be able to list common endangerment sites & contraindications for the neck and surrounding region(s).
Participants will be able to demonstrate proper patient positioning to safely and effectively work in this region.
Participants will be able to describe different types of headaches.
Participants will be able to list the most common muscles associated with headaches.
Participants will be able to describe the locations of the trigger points of the appropriate muscles and describe their referred pain patterns. (sternocleidomastoid, suboccipitals, upper trapezius, occipitofrontalis)
Participants will be able to demonstrate treatment methods for the appropriate trigger points.
Participants will be able to demonstrate warm up, deep tissue, pin & stretch and neuromuscular methods for the appropriate muscles.
Participants will be able to demonstrate proper lengthening (stretching) & re-education of the appropriate muscles.
Participants will be able to palpate the muscles of the region.

Additionally, participants will learn how to use hydrotherapy methods to relieve many types of headaches.
